South Africa !

We drove 6 hours from Johannesburg to Tremisana Game Lodge based in Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa along the Panaroma Route.  Stopping a few times along the way, our first stop was a coffee break at Alzu Petroport 2hours from Johannesburg.  Alzu Petroport is a unique environment where you can watch buffalo and rhino walking a few feet away from you.

Continuing our journey to Kruger National Park we stopped again at the stunning Abel Erasmus which is a 11km long Pass through the Drakensberg region in Limpopo.  We met some of the local women selling souvenirs and captured some magnificent photos of the beautiful rocky mountainsides and valleys.

Our Kidsetter loved playing the drums.

Arriving at Tremisana Guest Lodge we were welcomed by cheeky Vervet monkey’s who were brazen enough to eat our lunch from the table.

Soon it was time to depart for a 3-hour sunset game drive in the private Balule Game Reserve.  We enjoyed a starlit dinner at Marula Tree Boma which was set up deep in the bushveld and managed to spot ample wildlife including Lions at night.  What a thrill !

We slept in thatched chalets only to be awoken in the middle of the night by 8 elephants that had broken down the electric fence, crushed trees in search of water.  Thankfully our chalets were robust enough to handle their presence.  They left some gifts for us as well !

In the morning, we set off early to visit a remote corner of Balule Game Reserve for a 4-hour guided bush walk along the Olifants River with an armed safari guide. Enjoying the sights and sounds of a bushveld experience while keeping a keen eye on the thick bush for the Big Five and an abundance of antelope, predators and indigenous birds.

The following day we embarked on a full day safari tour in the Kruger National Park, exploring the upper-south and central region which has the highest concentration of lions in Africa.

On our final day we seized the opportunity to encounter our last game drive in Balule Game Reserve.  The elephants showed up for us in droves !

Returning to Johannesburg we journeyed along the spectacular Panorama Route travelling via the Blyde River Canyon to see the scenic splendours including the Three Rondawels.  Simply breathtaking !

Alas our African Safari’s had come to an end, until the next time.
