Singapore Swing

Singapore is a great holiday destination for a family.  I love anything to do with animal encounters so when I discovered that you could have breakfast with the Orangutans at Singapore Zoo – well it immediately became a hot spot that we had to share with our Kidsetter.  We travelled with our 3-year-old and his best friend’s family and found Singapore to be effortless and exciting.

We toured the city on foot and absorbed all the beautiful sights.  Naturally we had to visit the Singapore icon – Raffles which opened in 1887.  It is one of the few remaining great 19th century hotels in the world.  We had our photo taken with the infamous ‘Narajan Singh’ – a Sikh doorman of Raffles Hotel whom has become the brand ambassador of the grand old institution.

Later we made our way to Marina Bay Sands and ventured inside this awe-inspiring building.  What a masterpiece.  There is plenty to see, do, eat and buy at Marina Bay Sands.  A 56-story hotel with a dazzling infinity pool, 800,000 square foot shopping mall, 50 restaurants, 2 theatres, an art and science museum and a casino.  The options here are truly endless.

The following morning, we visited Singapore Zoo to have a jungle breakfast at the terrace of Ah Meng Restaurant.  The orangutans swing in for breakfast literally !  One moment we are sitting eagerly at our outdoor breakfast table awaiting the infamous Orangutans.  Will the show up?  They are no where to be seen, and then suddenly the stars of the show arrive !

The incredible primates were larger than life, brazen and cheeky; reminded me very much of our Kidsetters.  The keepers shared interesting quirks about the animals whilst we munched on a delicious buffet style breakfast.

We anticipated that the highlight would be the Orangutans, however what we didn’t expect has how engaging Singapore Zoo would be.  There are many more animal shows to see; be soaked by a Sea Lion or watch Elephants showcase their strength, beauty and intelligence.

Our Kidsetters enjoyed running about the zoo wondering what animal would appear around the next corner.

The care and dedication the Zoo Keepers have for their wildlife and help foster in young ones to learn about our world’s wildlife in this environment is truly unforgettable.

We thoroughly enjoyed Singapore as a family destination.  The people are relaxed and welcoming.  Sites are easily accessible via public transport, taxi or on-foot.  There is plenty to do, see and explore for all ages.
