Lego Learning

We travelled with our 6-year-old Kidsetter to Legoland California, staying at the Legoland Resort.  What a treat !  This is the ultimate experience for Lego buffs.  Legoland Resort sets the tone for fun immediately.

We checked in and our Kidsetter was given a scavenger hunt to complete. Once all clues were compiled, he held the combination to unlock a ‘treasure box’ in our room. We caught the elevator to our adventure themed floor.  As soon as the doors closed, a disco ball lit up and disco music played. We danced our way up to the floor singing “Everything is Awesome !”  Entering our room was like stepping into an Indiana Jones film.  The Lego décor and models throughout the room, allowed our Kidsetter to be fully immersed imaging he was venturing into the jungles of South America searching for a golden statue (or Lego).

In true Indiana Jones style we set out for an unforgettable quest and adventure, visiting the Legoland Park conveniently located at the back of the resort.

Our Kidsetter enjoyed the various Character Meet & Greets.  We never knew which character we may run into next – a heroic knight, Ninjago warrior or Friends from Heartlake City.

I’m not a fan of many rides these days but our Kidsetter was adamant I had to ride the Lego Technic.  The constant twisting, turning, dropping roller coaster was a great lesson in the forces of gravity and acceleration.  The things you’ll do for your Kids !

Next our Kidsetter just had to drive his own car through the city streets earning his Legoland Driver’s license.  Red means stop. Green means go.  This was such a hit that had to be repeated.

We visited Lego Friends Heartlake City where our Kidsetter splash around having an absolute ball.  A heart-shaped fountain surrounded by pop up water jets and playful water fountains saturated our Kidsetter.  He wore the biggest grin.

Next we boarded a small boat and gently sailed a brook through scenes from classic fairy tales.  All scenes and characters are made of Lego including Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Aladdin.  This is a great way to catch your breath whilst admiring the inventive creations.

Our Kidsetter was spellbound watching the factory robots make the Lego pieces.

I enjoy observing how much joy our Kidsetter gains from playing with Lego.  At the same time so many developmental skill sets are being taught.  In particular to our Kidsetter was being able to give it a go; improvising and creating a physical picture created from his mind without relying on the guidance of a booklet.

Also learning about persistence and having an upbeat attitude are terrific bonuses.  If a creation smashes accidently our Kidsetter now says “It’s OK, I can build it again!”  Visiting Legoland was a great source of inspiration for this.

Everything really is Awesome at Legoland.
