We enjoyed a day out at Hahndorf Adelaide Hills with our 7-year-old Kidsetter, located 25 minutes from Adelaide.
Strolling along Hahndorf’s historic main street is like stepping back in time. Settled in 1839, Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement and still has a strong German flavour most evident in the smallgoods outlets, bakeries, pubs, restaurants and cafes that line the bustling main street. Hahndorf’s picturesque, colonial charm remains remarkably intact.
Our Kidsetter especially enjoyed the ‘Once Upon A Time Hahndorf Puppets Shop’. Entering a world of imagination and storytelling he was able to have a hands-on tactile experience. Our Kidsetter played with all sorts of puppetry such as marionettes, finger puppets and stage puppets. There is even a magic faraway tree – a very enchanting top shop indeed.
We stopped off at a German café and enjoyed an authentic Bratwurst sausage. Bought back fond memories of the German Christmas markets. Scrumptious !
Of course we had to have our pic taken at the ‘German Village Shop’ face cut out board pretending we were wearing Bavarian German clothing !
We browsed the incredible range of shops; cuckoo clocks, German delicatessens, candle makers, traditional lolly shops and retail art galleries. After absorbing more German traditional fare, character and charm it was time to leave….. until next time.
