German Christmas Markets

We travelled to Germany with our 5-year-old Kidsetter. We checked in to one the grandest hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying at – Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof. Such an elegant hotel, in the heart of the historical city centre and close to the central station (13-minute walk). A mix between the beautiful past and the convenient present.

Usually I loathe checking in at a hotel with a child in tow and jet lagged, however this was an enjoyable experience. Staff were friendly at reception and immaculately dressed. I value great customer service and they were all exceptional and love kids ! You can clearly see their desire to offer the best first-class service to suit everyone’s needs. Upon arriving to our room, our Kidsetter was pleasantly surprised by receiving his very own mini sized dressing gown, kids toiletries and a colouring in pack. Very thoughtful.
As they say, it’s always the minute details that really count.

Our concierge was leaving the hotel either for a break or finishing work. He saw that I was struggling to convince our 5-year-old to keep his coat on and to zip it up. Our Kidsetter was very persistent, I must’ve given the young man a look of absolute fret not wanting to have our Kidsetter out in the freezing cold without his coat on. He stopped and said let me help you. He was a circuit breaker for our Kidsetter and he proceeded to do the zip up on our son’s jacket. A tiny gesture like this, meant our Kidsetter’s stubbornness had been broken and we could head out to enjoy the Christmas markets.

Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt is one of the largest Christmas markets in all of Germany. Its history has been traced back to 1393. The elaborate and creative stand decorations, the scenic surroundings on the Römerberg and St Paul’s Square and the huge Christmas tree combine to also make it one of Germany’s most beautiful.

We loved munching on all the various German food on offer and looking at all the Local artisans handicrafts, toys, and other Christmas presents. Naturally we had to enjoy a nostalgic ride on a vintage merry-go-round. We kept ourselves warm with a hot cup of mulled wine (adults only of course, hot chocolate for the Kidsetters). We would stop from time to time just to view the market’s beautifully illuminated Christmas tree.

The festive atmosphere and romance of winter is alive and thriving at Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt. Your Kidsetters will enjoy this magical Christmas experience.
