Colourful Curacao

Curaçao is a fantastic family destination, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and Kidsetter friendly activities.

This Caribbean island, part of the ABC islands along with Aruba and Bonaire, is renowned for its stunning beaches, rich history, and welcoming ambience.

Willemstad, the island’s capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its brightly colored colonial architecture and historical significance.

In particular Handelskade boasts vibrant, pastel-colored colonial buildings lining the waterfront. This iconic area, part of the Punda district, reflects the island’s Dutch architectural heritage and Caribbean charm.

We meandered through the city’s historic streets absorbing the atmosphere, enjoying the murals around Willemstad.

These colorful artworks transform the city’s streets into an open-air gallery, capturing the spirit of the local community and its diverse heritage.

Many murals portray themes of Caribbean life, historical figures, and social messages, celebrating Curaçaoan identity and creativity.

We perched ourselves at Restaurant & Café Gouverneur De Rouville in their outdoor terrace.  Situated in a beautifully restored 18th-century building on the Otrobanda side of the city, with stunning views of the iconic Handelskade across St. Anna Bay.  Easy to why this is a favourite among visitors to Willemstad.

Of course, a visit to Curaçao is not complete without visiting the Blue Curaçao liqueur shop.  Personally, we are not fans of this liqueur however it was fun to see where it was made.  It’s electric blue color and unique flavor derived from the peel of the Laraha citrus fruit native to Curaçao.

It was the first time in our travels that our Kidsetter really ever noticed “love locks” before, he was fascinated.  The love heart with locks are a romantic and symbolic installation where couples attach padlocks as a token of their love and commitment.

We headed to Mambo Beach Boulevard, a vibrant seaside destination offering a perfect blend of relaxation and entertainment.  The boulevard boasts a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars, providing diverse culinary and shopping experiences.

Naturally we wanted to swim and we found our perfect location to set our selves up for the day at Wet & Wild Beach Club.  A lively beachfront venue with direct access to clear turquoise waters and soft sand of Mambo beach.

Our Kidsetter enjoyed being able to swim, build sandcastles, snorkel and enjoy refreshments when he so desired.

Curaçao’s beautiful beaches, rich cultural experiences, engaging attractions, delicious cuisine, and welcoming environment make it the perfect location to visit with your Kidsetters.
