Castaway Cay

Onboard Disney’s ‘Dream’ cruise ship departing from Florida, meant that we were able to travel to Disney’s private island.  Reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line Guests on Bahamian and Caribbean cruises.

An island completely outfitted for premium family leisure. Ample amenities include sprawling beaches, sparkling lagoons teeming with curious sea life, splash-worthy water play areas, scenic walking trails, open-air BBQ dining locations serving complimentary meals, 2 shops featuring Castaway Cay gifts and souvenirs, free tram transportation around the island and more.

This day was one of our most treasured days and hilarious from start to finish.

We disembarked early, eager to settle in for the day.  It started off quite cold so the idea of going for a swim was not that appetising.  Our 8-year-old Kidsetter was keen to swim out to the ‘Pelican Plunge’.  (Freezing, but we did not come all the way to the Caribbean to not experience as much as we could ! )

Note, it is mandatory to use a snorkel vest in the lagoon which are complimentary.

Pelican Plunge is a 2,400-square-foot floating platform adorned with nautical Flotsam and Jetsam.  The water-play area and platform celebrates the island’s native pelicans.

Our Kidsetter had already swam over and about to take a ride on one of the 2 twisting very fast water slides with his dad that fling you into the lagoon.  Thinking I better join them, psyched myself to embrace the freezing water, finally made it to the platform, not taking notice of my surroundings just wanted ‘out’ of the water….. well too funny !  Unbeknownst to me a massive bucket hung above my head….. and dumped hundreds of gallons of freezing cold water on me !  The boys saw the entire episode from the top of the slide and didn’t stop laughing.

This really did set the wheels in motion for a hilariously fun day.

The weather warmed up and we found our place in the sun at Castaway Family Beach.  We rented 3 inner tubes which were a constant source of laughs and entertainment.  I was referred to as the ‘beached whale’, as could not manoeuvre my tube away from the shore !

We had worked up an appetite and enjoyed a delicious buffet feast at Cookie’s BBQ, complete with ice-cream !

After a full day of swimming, we wandered the souvenir shops leisurely and made our way back to the ship.  We had smiles on our faces from ear to ear !
