Travelling to Manly in New South Wales is a great destination for a relaxed family holiday. Your Kidsetters will love the authentic Australian beach vibe.
Take a 30 minute ferry from Sydney’s circular quay wharf across to Manly. This relaxing journey in itself is a must for visitors, with spectacular harbour and ocean views. Our 4 year old Kidsetter had a blast ! Seven nautical miles later and you have arrived in another world. An intoxicating aroma of the ocean infiltrates the air.
We enjoyed many strolls along the oceanfront walk to sheltered Shelly Beach captivated by the iconic beach curves from South Steyne to North Steyne and Queenscliff.
Obviously, it is compulsory to have fish n’ chips by the beachside. Yum !
Sandy, tree-fringed Manly Beach is one of the city’s famed surf spots where the first world surfing contest was held in 1964. You, and your kidsetters can learn to surf from some of the best teachers in the country !
Manly is a destination where you can be as active or inactive as you desire – well, your Kidsetters desire. Unwind on lovely Manly Beach where you’ll find plenty of wonderful things to do and see, from picnics on the promenade to fun and informative tours, including snorkelling, diving, and cycling.
We ventured up the hill to visit the captivating “castle on the hill” – the old seminary. Well known 19th century architects, Joseph Sheerin and John Hennessey, designed the seminary in a blend of neo-Gothic and Romanesque styles. Now home to the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), this stone building won world-wide acclaim when it was built by the Catholic Church between 1885 and 1889 and is a site of exceptional historical and cultural significance.
Whilst in Manly, you and your kidsetters must enjoy a breakfast at The Pantry. Located at the water’s edge of world-famous Manly beach, The Pantry Manly is the perfect spot for breakfast. With a menu focused on fresh, local and seasonal produce, The Pantry Manly offers a taste of modern Australia. The Pantry was originally a beach house built in 1919 and for many years served as a tea house and change rooms for locals and tourists alike. It has a great atmosphere, and we thoroughly enjoyed starting our day at this charming vantage point.
Thirty minutes to the best of Sydney’s outdoors. A playground for young and old. To eat, shop, play, relax. So close to the city but so far from city stress.
