Glamping Moab

It doesn’t get much more fun camping out under the amazing starlit sky in Utah. It’s every kid’s dream and most adults as well. But you need to be prepared and to do it in style !

After a long 4 hour drive from the amazing Capitol Reef National Park we arrived off Highway 191 at the fascinating Moab Under Canvas. Our Kidsetter was beside himself with excitement to think that we would be camping outside under the stars. We were welcomed and given a brief overview of the camp site and where our tent was. Then it was time to bundle everything out of the Volvo SUV into a golf buggy. This was just so much fun as we were all taken to our luxury tent overlooking Arches National Park.

The fun of camping without having to put your own tent up can not be overstated when you have Kidsetters. Beautiful comfortable beds and a stove with comfortable armchairs and even and indoor shower and toilet; glamping indeed !

As the sun sets it’s time to collect the firewood and prepare for a BBQ dinner. Then what do you do for entertainment when you’re 6 years old ? Well it’s time for a shadow puppet show against the canvas of the tent of course to have everyone rolling over in fits of laughter – who needs TV ?

As the sun disappears over the most breathtaking landscape the stars start to come out and what a show this is. It’s also time to gather around the camp fire and toast s’mores and share a story or two of travel and adventure.  The wonderful thing about this location is that it is only a 20 minute drive from both Canyonlands and Arches National Parks.  Make sure you get going early to get in to Arches National Park. While it’s a wonderful park for Kidsetters because there aren’t those sheer drops, you still need to keep a close eye on them and a safety wrist band is still very useful. Make sure you have sunscreen, hats and plenty of water. Even on relatively mild days the little ones can still get dehydrated.

The best part about Arches National Park is that most of it can be discovered from the comfort of a car and the views are just spectacular. If you can, hire a mustang for the day and enjoy the fun of having the roof off and this amazing landscape stretching out as far as the eye can see.

There are some wonderful places to eat in Moab itself. Eddie McStiffs Restaurant and Bar was such a hit. They were just so friendly and welcoming with kids. They allowed us to taste all sorts of ice creams and then wouldn’t even let us pay. The  Moab Diner is also great value and perfect for very affordable classic American diner food and kid friendly service. Stop off at City Market before you head back to your tent to stock up on amazing salads, meat for BBQs, cereals and fruit for breakfast and any other small luxuries to make that glamping experience even more memorable.

As the sun sets on yet another amazing Utah day you will be so glad to have escaped those awful motel rooms and the hustle and bustle of the centre of Moab for a night or two under the stars with the family; something you will never forget.
